JUNIOR LADIES INSTALLED AT THE ACADEMY OF THE HOLY NAMES
On January 30, 2019 the Academy of the Holy Names held their installation ceremony for the Junior Ladies of Charity. Father Patrick Butler presided over the Mass as these young women accepted the call “to serve rather than be served.” So far this year these Junior Ladies have held a coat drive for the Schenectady City Mission, raised $5,000 for World Visions to build a well, sold raffle tickets to benefit the American Heart Association, sponsored an ice cream sale raising $200 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, collected toiletries for the Regional Food Bank as well as baby items for the Alpha Pregnancy Center. They also supported the Ladies of Charity in their work with Mary’s Corner by sorting and putting together outfits for children. The Ladies of Charity are so proud of the work the Junior Ladies are doing and we look forward to building our relationship and continuing our work with them.
We currently have two Junior Ladies of Charity affiliates, one at the Academy of the Holy Names in Albany and one at St.Matthews Church in Voorheesville.
On Thursday December 8th the Junior Ladies of Charity at the Academy of the Holy Names installed 41 girls from 8th to 12th grade. The Albany Chapter of the LOC extends their sincerest and happiest congratulations to the young ladies at the Academy of the Holy Names who have made a decision “to serve rather than to be served!”
The Junior Ladies of Charity at the Academy of the Holy Names has held a bow sale, Salvation Army tag collection, coat drive for the Schenectady City Mission, and Yankee Candle fundraiser all to benefit those less fortunate in the community. The girls are actively looking for volunteer opportunities so please reach out in our “Contact Us” section if you have such an opportunity that you would like presented.
